There are a lot of things that can be easily done in your weekly or everyday shop that can help you to save a hell of a lot of money each week when buying groceries. Obviously the size of your shop will determine how much you can save each time, but some people find they can save hundreds per trip when they take on board some simple changes in their buying habits that can be easily overlooked.

First of all a good idea is to never go grocery shopping when you're hungry. People have been proved to buy as much as 50% more food when they are hungry than when they are full, a lot of which are not items that the need or intended to get when they left the house. Larger stores such as walmart etc that have bakeries in store because the smell of freshly baked break makes people more hungry, and they in turn buy more. They also plan the stores so that common staple items that someone might go in to buy by themselves are at the opposite ends of the store. For example bread, milk and eggs are often as far away as they physically can be so that you are forced to walk around the store more and be tempted to buy things that you see as you go around.

Always remember to check prices that are weighed out in pounds or ounces compared to pre-bagged goods because something that will often look like a good price per ounce can often be misleading and will work out more then buying a larger pre-weighed measure. This is often the case for buying in bulk in general also, the general rule being that if you buy more you can generally get a better price and of course it will mean you will have to go out and buy that particular item less than before, which can save you a little in fuel even if it is something that you tend to go and buy regularly.

Another good idea is to use coupons and special offers whenever you can so that you get the best prices on items that are being promoted. Often when a new brand comes out or when an older brand isn't doing so well stores will promote it and enable you to make a huge saving on it in the hope that you will become a regular buyer when the price returns to normal. Being flexible with the brands you buy can enable you to make big savings every time you shop for a lot of items.
