On July 19, 2007 Reuters reported that President Bush is trying to come out with a new plan to "define several types of contraception methods as abortion". (http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSN1843863720080718) This idea is a slap in the face to all American women who depend on contraception as a responsible alternative in preventing unwanted pregnancies.

As the war in Iraq rages on, gas prices are at an all time high, the housing market crashes, the cost of living is skyrocketing and most Americans are suffering, our lame duck President has made it his personal crusade to infringe upon yet another American right.

According to the Senator Hillary Clinton, if this plan is adopted, "it would cut off federal funds to hospitals and states where medical providers are obligated to offer legal abortion and contraception to women".

I remember a time when the lawmakers in this country stayed clear of infringing upon the personal lives of their citizens. Now it seems like this has become an every day occurrence. The Republicans have, for so long, held themselves out as the party of personal responsibility. Now they are using their influence and the dwindling influence of the religious right in an attempt to force all Americans into conforming to their religious beliefs. When will the lawmakers learn that this is America? Everyone is free to have their own beliefs. The government is forbidden (by Constitution) from stepping into the personal lives of the citizens. It seems, however, that a silly little piece of paper like the Constitution will evidently not stop this administration.

To all of the lawmakers who support this newest invasion of privacy, I say stay out of my life and the lives of all law abiding citizens. Why don't you take issues with the real problems facing this country?
