If you love to show off your photos, but you simply don't have the room to display anymore, here's a craft for you. The simple and unique photo display takes up little room and can stand on a mantle, dresser, counter or a shelf. Best of all it's cheap and easy to make!

Styrofoam is available in many different shapes at craft and department stores. Choose a disk shaped piece of any size you choose. Paint the Styrofoam, if you wish, or further embellish it with sequin, glitter glue, faux jewels or other craft items.

Purchase a dowel rod for your photo display. The size you choose should be proportional to the size of Styrofoam disk you have selected. The rod doesn't need to be very long - twelve inches tall, or so, will do just fine.

Paint the rod, bejewel it, or otherwise decorate it. You can wrap it in fabric, paper, or even a small piece of shelf liner. It's up to you how you wish to decorate it. Push the end of the rod into the center of the Styrofoam disk. Add a dab of glue to secure the rod and keep it embedded in the Styrofoam.

At any craft store you'll find miniature clothes pins that are perfect for holding your photos. Glue the clothes pins onto the dowel leaving spaces between them. Glue some of the pins facing to the right and some facing the opposite direction. This way, you can display photos down each side of the dowel rod.

Be sure to leave enough space between the clothes pins to allow for the size of the photos.

Add a topper to your photo display. A wooden star can be glued on top or you can choose a different topper. Some choices for the topper might be a satin bow, a wooden shape, a ceramic piece, or a plastic novelty. Even an old clip-on earring, or large shank button, can become the topper for your photo display.

Instead of a dowel rod you can also use something like a ruler. There are several choices of substitution for the dowel rod. The ruler can be painted or covered in cloth. After you've decorated it glue on the clothes pins to hold the pictures.

Takeaways
  • You can make a standing photo display that takes up little room.
  • Use clothes pins to hold the photos.
  • Use the photo display to show postcards or even to offer business cards.
