This easy and inexpensive copper star lampshade project can turn an ordinary table lamp into an exquisite Cowboy Chic design accessory! For this project, you will need:
- One new paper lampshade
- Cardstock
- Pencil
- Star shaped stencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Spray Adhesive
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Glossy Black
- Krylon Brushed Metallic Paint in Sparkling Canyon
- Popsicle stick
- Acrylic finishing spray
- Newspaper or a large drop cloth
Begin by placing a single sheet of cardstock on your table work area. With a pencil, transfer the star shaped stencil image onto the paper. Cut out the star shape with a craft knife. Repeat this process, producing a second star shape. (If you wish to have more than just two stars, cut these out at this time as well.)
Cover your work area with a large drop cloth or adequate amount of newspaper. Place the paper lampshade flat on the work area. Spray the entire outside of the paper lampshade with two coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Allow the primed lampshade to dry for several hours, or until no longer tacky to touch.
Spray the entire lampshade with four to five coats of Krylon Brushed Metallic Paint in Sparkling Canyon. Allow the copper painted lampshade to dry fully; usually overnight.
Turn the star cardstock cutouts upside down on your craft mat. Hold them down while gently applying a bit of Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Spray Adhesive. (Work gloves might be helpful during this step.) Immediately press the star shapes to the center of opposite sides of the lampshade. (Apply any additional star shapes you have created now.) Smooth the shapes with a popsicle stick to prevent any lifting.
Spray the entire outside of the lampshade using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Glossy Black, Apply several coats, until a rich black shade has been reached. Allow the painted shade to dry overnight.
Remove the star shapes, revealing a copper star pattern. Spray the project with two to three coats of acrylic finishing spray. Dry overnight before installing on your favorite lamp.
