If your house was ever robbed would the bad guys get all your good stuff? Not if you know how to hide your valuables! Whether it's jewelry, money or even important papers there's an easy hiding place you can make and no one will ever suspect! The old saying of hiding something right under someone's nose is true when you make a rice jar to hide your valuables. A simple glass jar can easily become your safe. Jars with no labels are best. A jar that has a spaghetti sauce label, but contains rice, might draw suspicion. Cut 2 circles of cardboard or Styrofoam. The disk shapes should be as large as the mouth of the jar. Trim slightly so the disks will easily drop into the jar. You'll need one for the bottom and one for the top.
Use ordinary glue, or even better, spray adhesive to glue rice all over the disks. Styrofoam disks are perfect because they're already white. If you're using cardboard you might want to paint it white, and allow it to dry, before gluing on the rice. Cover both disks completely in rice and set aside to dry.
Place one rice-covered disk, rice side down, into the bottom of the jar. If someone lifts the jar and looks at it from the bottom it will still look like a jar of rice. Use a bathroom tissue roll, or paper towel roll, to actually hold the valuables. Cut the roll to a length that is just slightly shorter than the jar itself. Glue the bathroom tissue roll onto the disk in the bottom of the jar.
Use a funnel to fill the jar with rice making sure none of the rice falls into the paper towel roll. Fill the jar to the top of the bathroom tissue roll, but no further. Place the second disk on top of the paper towel roll but do not glue it. The second disk serves the same purpose as the bottom one. When anyone looks down into the jar it will appear to be just a jar of rice. The disk prevents anyone from seeing the paper towel roll inside.
Open the jar and remove the disk. Place your valuables inside the toilet paper roll and reposition the disk. Replace the jar lid and set the rice on a shelf or in the cupboard. No one will know it holds your money or jewelry.
