Shipshewana flea market, which is owned and operated by Keith and Kevin Lambright, is one of the best in Indiana if not the world. This may be an exaggeration but it is huge. If you like bargains you will love this flea market. If you are driving on 20 you will pass it on your way to downtown Shipshewana. It is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from the first of May through the end of October.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting. You can find everything from fruit to furniture at the Shipshewana flea market. It costs $3.00 a car to park but there are no other fees but what you spend on these unbelievably low priced items. With the economy being in jeopardy you will find even more bargains than usual. Shipshewana flea market is famous for it's tee shirts with homey pictures with homey sayings on them. They also have embroidered tee shirts that look every bit as expensive as those that you will find in clothing stores I found a large assortment of beautiful tee shirts in all sizes and colors which were quite beautiful for only $3.95. I don't know how they can make any money on a lot of their merchandise.

I found cedar birdhouses made with church steeples on the roofs for only $7.00. They are screwed together and are very heavy and built to last. There is many other beautiful wood creations as well as handmade furniture. The vendors are very competitive in their pricing needing to move their merchandise.

You can find bulk nuts and other food products too. I love to buy their cashews in bulk. If you want noodles, breads, and other baked goods you will be very pleasantly surprised at the variety and the prices.

If you are hungry you can buy mouthwatering chicken dinners and many other types of meals as well as homemade Amish pies. The hardest part of being at the Shipshewana flea market is the temptation from all of all the aromas wafting around you.

Sounds like our own Orange County Swap Meet, run every weekend in Costa Mesa, California. It's also very big, but for those who prefer smaller venues, we have the Indoor Swap Meet in Stanton.

Great companion piece to your "Shipshewana, Indiana: a Great Place to Shopping and Vacation" article. If I ever go to Indiana I know who I am notifying first ;-)

I went to the auction once and got totally caught up in "auction fever"... I ended up "winning", but paid far more than I had intended to! That was my first and last auction. (Why do I have to learn everything the hard way?)
