Some groups such as drive55.org are advocating that driving at 55pmph and lower, not only improves safety for folks on the road, but more importantly saves on fuel consumption. ABC news has also reported that support is growing to bring back a national law similar to the one back in 1974, when 55mph was imposed nationwide in response to the energy shortages caused by the Arab Oil Embargo with the premise being that slower driver speeds would bring about greater fuel efficiency and less consumption.

Opponents say that what happened back in 1974 with the 55 speed limit program, only was met with limited success if any at all, and some law enforcement personnel say that to propose such a law now, won't stop people from slowing down and that drivers who choose to speed will do so at any speed limit regardless.

As the debate continues, the choices of our countries' dependency on fuel resources is becoming quite limited. The ability to come up with fuel alternatives is wide opened now to possibilities, but in the meantime, it is our responsibility to utilize choices that we have on hand to save some extra money if possible, all while trying to promote a cleaner environment for all. So whether you are researching the idea of purchasing a hybrid vehicle or choosing to walk to work instead of driving, any ideas such as these, can only be beneficial overall and helpful in reducing the pain at the pump.

Some Gas Saving Tips

1.Just Slow Down--you don't' have to be a rocket scientist to figure this out---speeding miles over the limit just burns up your gas more quickly which equals less dollars in your pocket.

2. No more multiple car trips during the week. Make a list of all the places that you need to go to (grocery store, cleaners, etc.) and pick one day to do it.
