We all are feeling the crunch prices at the gas pumps and want to save a buck or two when possible. I drive for a living and we discuss gas saving techniques often at FedEx. Here are some things that may improve your miles per gallon thus saving you some money.

Make sure your car is tuned up and has a clean air filter and fuel filter. Doing this keeps it running at it's best and reduces the gas the engine uses.

Make sure your tires have correct pressure, just read the book that comes with the car. Or ask whoever sold you the tires.

Planning trips ahead of time can save gas. This is twofold, one don't make several trips a day. Know what errands you need to run and do them all at once, hopefully on the way to or from work. And if possible plan the route you will take. Attempt to make only right turns so as to get in and out of traffic faster. A car sitting with the motor running in traffic is using gas needlessly.

If possible leave the windows up and the AC off as both cause more gas to be used. Windows down at low speeds, at highway speeds, AC on with windows up.

Maintain a steady speed, even if slower than you like to drive, will help. Speeding up and slowing down is just blowing gas, as a matter of fact use cruise control if your vehicle is equipped with it.

Dump the junk in your truck - no not you ladies. But anything not needed is just making your car work harder to haul it. As a matter of fact, walk when you can if it is a short trip. You will lose weight and have less for the car to carry.

Buy a smaller fuel efficient car, that is the best thing you can do to start off with. I will probably be buying some sort of hybrid when I make my next car purchase.

Get a job like mine where you drive a company vehicle to work and home every day. Thanks James, if you read this!

Car Pool or use public transportation if possible, this is just common sense. Not only does either one save gas, it also cuts down on the aggravation of driving.

Perhaps the best gas saving tip I know. Stay the heck at home. America is a land of road trips and cruising. Those things are part of the past for most of us with today's gas prices.

I was just reading a history of Florida when they talked about starting to see a few cars travel down the roads. Those days may come back.
