We all know that exercise is very important to our health. And for those who are trying to lose weight, adding exercise to the daily routine is necessary for success. Many people who have gained weight over the years have done so since having children. Trying to find the time and opportunity to exercise can be tremendously difficult for parents of small children. For those who don't already use daycare services or drop their children off with babysitters, the only option seems to be to keep the children with them while they exercise.

Taking children with you when you exercise can be seriously challenging. But it's also a really good way to instill in your children the importance of daily exercise. Working out the logistics of exercising effectively with kids in tow and keeping them safe at the same time takes effort. For parents who are trying to lose weight and add exercise into their daily routines but must bring their children with them, here are a few suggestions for making it work.

Hit the gym. Most fitness centers provide some type of child care services so that parents can have an opportunity to exercise. Some fitness centers, like the YMCA, are actually designed to be geared towards families, and offer additional programs for children. At this type of fitness center, children can swim, climb rock walls, play basketball, or even use the fitness equipment alongside mom and dad if they are tall enough to do so. This not only solves the problem of managing the children while you exercise, but it gets them into the habit early of making exercise a priority in their lives. For children who are too small for these activities, family fitness centers provide child care.

Walk the track. If joining the local gym or family fitness center is cost prohibitive for your family right now, seek out the school track closest to your home. Taking kids with you to walk the track is manageable, and gets them walking, too. For babies or children who are so small that trying to have them walk the track with you would only turn into a game of chase, just bring a stroller and push them around the track in it as you walk.
