Why are men so attached to video games? I am talking about grown, five o'clock shadow type men, not your little brother, little cousin or son. Men are willing to shut everything out in the world just to sit in front of the TV screen and play a video game.

Are these games really so interesting that they have to play them for hours upon hours? Men will sit there and play until there eyes are blood shot red. Now, I'm not saying that as I woman I do not play any video games because I do, especially LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Indiana Jones (I love the LEGO series, can't wait for LEGO Batman to release) but I do not play video games every single day, two times a day.

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with playing video games; it just becomes a problem when it's overdone. For example, last night when my boyfriend came home from work, I didn't not get my hug, kiss and 'I missed you' like I usually get every night. You know why? It was because he had just bought Grand Theft Auto IV the day before.

It's amazing how much control these video games have over people. I know people who will blow their whole paycheck on a game system and some games. My thing is, if you have the money to buy these things then go ahead, but if you are living paycheck to paycheck, please don't go out and waste your money on a game when you know there isn't anything in your refrigerator except old salad dressing and stale leftovers.

My boyfriend said playing these games is a stress reliever for him. Okay, so why do the same games that he claims relieve stress have him ready to break the console once he fails a mission or loses? Yeah, that's a real stress reliever there.

Here's the reason Sharay: When women grow from girls to women, nothing really changes. As kids girls play dress up, mommy, etc., For many women adulthood is nothing but the adult manifestation of playing dress up and mommy. For many women the playing of little girl games are practice for adulthood, but for men the world has changed. When men are grown we no longer supposed to play the games we played as kids. Boys play sports and army and build forts in the woods. Computer & video games are the only even mildly acceptable forms of child-like behavior men are allowed to engage in. The 'puter and Xbox allow us adult males to again play army, etc. For adult women, dress up and mommy are real life endeavors. And my comments are not in any way an indictment against women - merely an acknowledgment of the facts as they exist. Good article and welcome to AC Sharay!
