It's fun to use something meant for one purpose to create a unique craft or home decor item. One such item is lattice work. Many people purchase lattice to enclose underneath decks and steps or to otherwise spruce up their property. Lattice is available in wood and imitation wood types and is generally white or natural in color. If you've never seen lattice it has a cris-cross pattern something like you would see on top of a strawberry pie. The pattern produces squares - or diamond shapes - that are perfect for displaying your family photos on a wall. One piece of lattice is all you need. Cut it down to size or have the home improvement store do this for you for a small fee. Measure your wall area, give them the measurements, and many of the stores will cut the lattice for you.
Each square or diamond shape can display one photo. Cut the photos to size and tape them to the backside of the lattice. If you want you can place a piece of acetate, or clear plastic in the opening first. Glass pieces can be cut and attached instead, but the glass will make the lattice much heavier, so take extra steps to secure the lattice to the wall. After you've attached the plastic piece, to protect your photos, you can then tape or glue the photos behind the plastic.
There are many different designs you can make with the lattice. Cut it into two or three pieces, space them apart on the wall, then create a different theme for each one. Or, cut one piece that is hung vertically then two that are hung beside it, horizontally. The arrangement is all yours.
Attach the lattice to the wall using screws, nails or even double-side tape. If you attach the tape to the entire perimeter, on the backside, it's enough to hold the lattice if you used plastic instead of glass. If you're using glass pieces in each "frame" you'll need to use screws to hold the lattice.
