When an ancient treaty is broken between mankind and those that are not human, problems start happening and the only people that can stop it are those that aren't really people to begin with. Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Hellboy II has something that makes it interesting as a story and a movie that other superhero movies have as well, but because Hellboy is different it makes it unique enough to not have to be compared to other superheroes from D.C. or Marvel. Sometimes it's easy to watch superhero movies and compare because they have similarities that give one the ability to do so. But because Hellboy (Ron Perlman), Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) and Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) are so character driven with powers as secondary they make for great superheroes. So imperfect and so different that they are what make this movie fantastic.

Perlman is so exactly needed for this role and on this second film much better than the first one. Blair has fire as her power and yet her passion in the character smolders so rightly that she's hot. Jones is odd as he needs to be with a character that reads things with his hands, which was one of the funny scenes in the movie dealing with Abe and Liz and a door.

Speaking of good scenes it was pretty awesome with the humor and the action. There were good fight scenes. Hellboy fights a monster with a metallic hand and it's a smart and clever fight, which is most of the fights in the entire movie. There's not a lot of expending of powers needlessly.
