A healthy person will see an average of 1/2" hair growth a month in the winter and a bit more growth per month in the summer. People tend to be more active in the summer and more sedentary in the winter. Your hair growth is stimulated by the circulation in your scalp. Exercise stimulates your circulation.

So the more exercise you get and the more often you go in the beauty shop the more your head is being massaged etc., the faster your hair will tend to grow. Now you can give yourself a scalp massage at home and get more exercise and drink lot's of water (taking vitamins can also help your hair grow faster - hair and nails like calcium). All of this will help - but if you do not get your hair trimmed regularly - your ends will start to split.

No matter how well you take care of your hair, hair is dead and it needs to be trimmed. The sun and other environmental factors affect the hair on your head. The more often you go in to get your hair trimmed, the healthier your hair will look. Some people think that this is what is making their hair grow faster - really it is just maintaining the integrity of the hair you have. Chances are if you go for too long without a trim - when you go in to get a trim they will have to take a few inches off just to get all of the "dead" ends off. If you go in every 3 months or so and just get a 1/2" taken off - the faster it will seem your hair is growing out - and the healthier your hair will be!

Thank you for such an informative article. I wear my hair very long and typically only get it trimmed once a year; and when I do, they always chop off more than I wanted! Just like you wrote - at least three inches!! Thank you for the tips. Being new to Florida, I am definitely seeing a difference in my hair with all the sun exposure. Great article! :)
