The NFL is inducting some very worthy players into the NFL Hall of Fame during 2008. Art Monk, Gary Zimmerman, Darrell Green, Andre Tippett, Fred Dean and Emmitt Thomas are the newest members to be enshrined in Canton Ohio. Here are some brief bios on the gentlemen who are in this year's class of Hall of Famers.

Art Monk was a great wide receiver for the Washington Redskins, Jets and Eagles (the latter two his last 2 seasons in the league) who had been slighted in previous ballots. But he has been voted into the NFL Hall of Fame finally and rightfully so. In 224 games Art Monk caught 940 passes for 12,721 yards (all stats are from pro-football-referance.com) and 79 touchdown receptions.

A member of the "Pose" with Gary Clark and Ricky Sanders, Monk quietly had a great career. He was substance over flash and was a true pleasure to watch on the field, even though I was a Dallas Cowboys fan at the time.

Gary Zimmerman was a very, very good offensive tackle and one of the few well known at that obscure position. After playing in the USFL, he went to the NFL's Vikings then the Broncos after a trade. According to the NFL Hall of Fame's website, he was named to 2 different NFL all decade teams for the 80's and the 90's.

Darrell Green was more known for winning NFL fastest man competitions for part of his career, but he soon became a top flight shut down corner for the Washington Redskins. And it seemed like he played forever and didn't lose a step of that world class speed. He played 20 YEARS at cornerback in the NFL and did some fine work as a punt returner off and on during that time. In 295 games he intercepted 54 passes for 621 yards and 6 touchdowns. He recovered 10 fumbles for 121 yards and 2 more scores. He added 611 yards on punt returns. He added 3 scores in playoff games on a punt return and 2 interceptions. Darrell Green certainly earned his place in the NFL Hall of Fame.

I learn more and more about football from him. The only thing about football around here though is I love Redskins he loves Chiefs and his mom loves Dallas. Which causes a few disagreements during football season.
