Day 35 (Thursday, July 17, 2008)
I've decided that with these Fioni shoes, as ornate as they are, sticking to a simple ensemble is better. This feels pretty '80s but not scarily so. It's still modern looking and yet unique enough that not every other girl on the street would sport it. Speaking of the '80's, an article about Madonna's fashion journey in The New York Times' Styles section inspired me today. There's something about her signature grunginess that's very appealing---but maybe that's because I favor imperfect beauty.
*Gap sweater, one of my famous $0.50 snags, from the Columbia Pike thrift shop. It has a light, almost moth-eaten quality to it but still provides enough insulation to shield me from the air conditioning.
*Eggplant tube top because the sweater's neckline dips down a little lower than what's appropriate for work. Cleavage is never, under any condition, suited for office environments. I chose purple because I wanted to add some color to my outfit.
*"Holy Trinity Rings"---these go well with the chain necklace
*Long silver chain to add some flair above my ankles; I wrapped it around my neck to create the appearance of layers. It probably would have been more of my style to opt for a scarf instead, though.
*Chico's jeans; their tailored fit forms a clean, no-nonsense silhouette that helps steer the focus toward my shoes
*Fioni shoes (I saved the best for last!), the shining stars of today's get-up. My sister cracked that they remind them of something the clownish '70s rockers from Kiss would wear.
