Fibromyalgia is a non-life threatening condition with symptoms of constant tiredness, muscle pain throughout the body, and tenders points all over- places where the slightest touch can hurt. Found more frequently in women than men, fibromyalgia's cause is unknown for certain, but there are many theories on what precipitates it. Fibromyalgia can lessen over time, but it never disappears completely. In addition to the discomfort that results from fibromyalgia, lack of sleep and depression often accompany this affliction, but most or all of these problems can be addressed through treatment.Formerly known as psychogenic rheumatism, chronic muscle pain syndrome, and fibrositis, fibromyalgia is thought to occur due to a variety of factors. Chemical changes in the brain involving what are known as neurotransmitters could be the culprit, as substances such as serotonin and a compound called substance P are affected. These chemicals are associated with depression, migraine headaches, gastrointestinal problems, pain, anxiousness, and stress; fluctuations in their levels can lead to trouble throughout your system. A pattern of disturbed sleep could be a cause of fibromyalgia rather than simply a symptom, and injuries to the upper spinal area may have the onset of eventual fibromyalgia as a consequence. Infections of the viral and bacterial variety also may be to blame, as could changes in your muscle metabolism, where lessened blood flow to muscles can affect your strength.
