I’m a single woman and honestly, I can tell you I haven’t ‘dated’ all that much, because most of the men I know don’t seem to know anything about actually ‘dating. I was fortunate recently to be asked out on a date and actually be taken on a real date. It was refreshing and a bit nostalgic to have someone truly want to do something other than just ‘hang out’ or ‘hop in bed’.

Dating is a lost art, in my opinion, and those who are able to truly practice this art form at its finest are a rare breed. So I wanted to talk a little today about how to have a good first date, the kind gentlemen, that will leave her wanting more, and recognizing just how special you truly are… not to mention how different you are from all the other fish in the sea.

First, and foremost, men, get sex off the brain. Don’t expect it, don’t want it, and don’t ask for it on the first date. I know, you’re going to say this is so old fashioned, but truth is, if you want a good woman, the kind you men are saying don’t truly exist, the type of woman you truly want isn’t one who wants to hop into bed with you on the first date anyway. Set your sights on a tender first kiss for your first date, but don’t hold yourself to that – I received a kiss on my hand and a kiss on my forehead that actually touched me more than a lip kiss did for a first date, and really made the man stand out as special to me.

Okay, so how can you make a first date really stand out from every other first date you might have had? Well, first, let’s can the dinner and a movie cliché. It’s been done to death. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with dinner and a movie, but let’s be a bit more creative and really capture our date’s attention – and we might be able to save you some money too, without you looking cheap!

Takeaways
  • Do something fun and unique for your first date that will be remembered.
  • Dinner and a movie is okay sometimes, but make your first date really stand out.
  • Treat her with respect and do those little things most people forget to do, and you will stand out.
