The gorgeous color combination of teal and brown is becoming very popular in many kitchens. This teal and brown striped kitchen stool project turns an ordinary counter stool into a customized décor accessory that mimics those found in posh interior design boutiques. For this project, you will need:
- One or more wooden counter stools
- Medium grit sandpaper
- Soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Bahama Sea
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Brown Boots
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Masking tape
- Scissors
- Polyurethane sealant
- Sponge brush
- Newspaper or a large drop cloth.
Spray paint and sealants can be come extremely messy within this project. First, cover your work area with an adequate amount of newspaper or a large drop cloth to keep finished cleanup at a bare minimum. Gently sand the wooden counter stool with medium grit sandpaper. (This will allow the paint to adhere a bit better.) Wipe away any sanding dust with a soft cloth.
Coat all areas of the stool with a thick coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Wait for fifteen minutes before adding a second coat of the primer. Allow the primed counter stool to dry for several hours, or until it is no longer tacky to touch.
Apply three to four thick coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Brown Boots to the stool, pausing briefly between paint layers. Allow the painted counter stool to dry overnight.
Use the ruler to make pencil marks that are exactly one inch apart across the top of the barstool. Cut and apply one inch wide masking tape to every other marking. (This should create a striped effect of one inch exposed brown stripe to one inch masking tape stripe.) Smooth the tape down with your fingers to prevent any paint getting underneath.
Spray the seat (and only the seat) of the counter stool with three to four coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Bahama Sea. Again, allow the paint to dry overnight.
Remove all masking tape. Apply a thick coat of polyurethane sealant to the barstool with the sponge brush. Let the teal and brown striped kitchen stool dry overnight before using.
