Best Family Summer Vacation that Money Can Buy

Many summer vacations this year are put on hold with the rising cost of gas, which is heart breaking too many families. A family vacation is not only a relaxing way to spend the hot days of summer; it also bonds a family together.

Our family has a cheap idea and the only costs were the gas money and of course the food to eat on our summer vacation. Ray had bought the tent during the off-season saving us money, so that part was taken care of rather cheaply. The tent is actually three separate tents that the two smaller ones can zip on to the largest one, thus creating a huge family size tent. We left a small tent attached to the bigger tent we shared, for storage, and the smaller tent was zipped off for my son, so he could camp by himself.

There was no camping fees per say, because we went to my family's privately owned campsite at my sisters. My sister and her husband, own many acres of wooded land so as a family we have created this huge one-acre campground in the middle of the woods. It is the perfect place to have a summer vacation, along with our extended family.

Although the campsite is deep in the woods, we do not take cars down there usually. There is not electricity, except a small generator, which will run my dads nebulizer so he can get his breathing treatments. My brother in law who is a volunteer fireman in our small town, is the only one allowed to take his car down there so he can get out to a fire or get a family member out quickly in case of an emergency. This is the ultimate place to take a summer vacation because it is a cheap vacation surrounded by loving people.

We do not mind walking the mile or so back to the main roads or the homes of our parents and sister because the scenery is so breathe taking beautiful. A gently slopping upward hike is easy if you take your time, as I have too or I can ride a four-wheeler back to the homes.

As the rest of the family relaxed, I was busy writing notes for article ideas in a small notebook my sister gave to me for that purpose. You see even on a summer vacation a freelance writer like me is plagued with the need to write, as the ideas were plentiful because of the inspiring beauty of Mother Nature.
