Located just eight miles north of the bustling metropolis of Los Angeles, Santa Monica, California is an ideal vacation destination with its gorgeous beach, laid back atmosphere, luxurious lodging and world-class dining. After a full day of surfing, sunbathing and shopping, one of the best ways to unwind in Santa Monica is to enjoy a tall, fruity drink and a tasty meal in one of the numerous seaside cafes of the city. Below are five of the best seaside cafes Santa Monica has to offer.

1. The Lobster: This historic restaurant was originally opened as a small seafood stand in 1925. In the 1950's, the restaurant was purchased by Mateo Castillo, a dishwasher turned proprietor, who turned the Lobster into a booming success throughout the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. Although the restaurant closed for approximately a decade in the 1980's, it has since returned to its iconic status as one of Santa Monica's premiere dining spots. The menu features a variety of delectable seafood dishes including Kasu Marinated Chilean Sea bass and Dungeness Crab Enchiladas. Best of all, diners can enjoy panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Entrée prices range from $15.00 to about $30.00. The Lobster also features brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays. For reservations, call (310) 458-9294. The Lobster is located at 1602 Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica.

2. Ivy at the Shore: Another great seaside dining experience can be found at this Santa Monica classic. A branch of Los Angeles' famous The Ivy, The Ivy at the Shore is located in Santa Monica at 1535 Ocean Avenue. Although the food is expensive, The Ivy at the Shore is an excellent location for encounters with numerous celebrities. For reservations, call (310) 393-3113.
