Gay marriage is a very controversial topic. Most people have a very strong opinion on whether or not gay people should be allowed to get married. I, along with my other people, think that they should be granted the same right as everyone else and be allowed to get married. I understand that the people who disagree with my position do so because of religious beliefs. What I don't understand, though, is why gay people are not allowed to do everything that straight people are allowed to do simply because they are gay.

No matter if they are allowed to marry or not, gay people are going to continue to be gay. Denying them the right to be married is not going to going to magically make them straight. Gay people do not make a conscious decision to be gay. They were born that way, and they do not choose to love the people they love, love simply happens. People who are against this because of their religious have every right to have their own opinion, but it it just that, an opinion. Their beliefs should not get to dictate the lives of people who do not hold those same beliefs. It is not fair to deny them a simple right granted to every other person because of their sexual orientation.

Years ago marriages between African Americans and Caucasians were forbidden. Obviously, this law is not still in place because people have realized that it was wrong to deny marriage to two people because of the color of their skin. The law stating that a same sex couple cannot marry is wrong just as the law which stated that people who loved each other could not get married because of their ethnicity was wrong.

Just because people are gay does not give other people the right to judge what is right for them and what is not. Straight people should not be able to decide on a law which does not affect them. Gay marriage does not have any impact on the lives of straight people. What difference does it make if two gay people are living together not married or if they living together and married?

Great article and I completely agree. Gays want to get married by a preacher or whoever I don't care and neither should anyone else. What if we were taken over by an army of gays and they said we could not marry members of the opposite sex. Funny thought but people should worry about themselves.

William- It doesn't matter if the original purpose of marriage was to procreate. A lot of couples get married and don't have kids, does that mean that they shouldn't be allowed to get married if they aren't going to have children? Just because they are in love with a person who is the same sex as them does not mean that they should not be allowed to marry the person they love. They have not chosen to live their life differently, they have simply fallen in love with someone and they want to be able to marry that person, just as straight couples are allowed to

I also think it is ironic that a group of people who choose to live their lives differently would want to embrace the traditions of their political enemies. I always admired those who thumbed their noses at the establishment and status quo. What the hell happened to the gays? Huh? Now they want to get married and live like Ozzy and Harriet?

I see you have a few misconceptions about marriage and the law. Firstly, gays technically do have the same rights as everyone else. You have the right to marry a woman and so does a gay male. Admittedly, this equality leaves the gay male short of marrying the person he loves. But what if he loved his dog? His fence post (the one with the knothole)? What gay people are asking for is not equality but for a redefining of marriage to suit them. Personally, I have no problem with a man marrying another man or his dog. It does not prevent me from marrying a woman. On the other hand, if we look at the big picture, the whole original intent of marriage was to procreate. Couples that can't or won't procreate don't need to get married do they? Marriage, in our culture, has traditionally been between a man and a woman. Why is it wrong for people to want to preserve their traditions? Their votes should count--that is what democracy is really all about.

people need to mind their own business and let others live their life the way they want to

Awesome article, I agree with what you said.

I SO agree with this... people need to mind their own business, especially when it comes to the love lives of others.

Great points Personally, I don't care who marries. I say people should have the same rights.

Yeah, I agree w/ both sides. It doesn't directly affect me if all the gay people in the world got married today. In fact, I'd be happy for them that they found love. But I can understand why people get up in arms about it, because where is the line? Could someone then try to make it legal to marry their sister or marry their dog? But honestly, as long as people are happy, what's the big deal? Nicely written piece though Bob! You're a good persuasive writer...

Controversial subject, but you handled it nicely. You have a very good writing style, which allows you to tackle tough subjects that others are not able to master. :-) *****

I don't see the problem. They are people just like anyone else and no one should be able to tell them they aren't allowed to be happy.

Touchy subject, but good points. I wonder why Gay people would insist on a marriage in the religious sense rather than being okay with a legally binding civil union to give them s he same rights as a married couple?
