I believe I'm going to go about this London trip the easiest way, which is a travelogue kinda format. I don't want to miss anything and my memory is not so great anymore. This will be the easiest way to recall it all... and there is sooo much to tell you about. Before I begin day 1, however, I'd like to say that I was amazed by the London Underground. This city has the best transportation system I have ever seen. I don't much care for all the stairways, but you can get to absolutely anywhere you wish to go on this subway system, even if a section is down for some reason or another. It looks quite complicated at first, but by the end of the first 24 hours we were old pros at the system and hardly had to look at the map anymore. It's just bloody brilliant, I tell you. Do buy one of the all-day passes for £5. You will find you use it more than you think you will, and a one-way is £3 so if even if you only use it twice, you've gotten more than your money's worth... and saving money is a big deal here.
At first, you think prices are fairly good in London. Things are marked about what you expect to pay in the US... until you realize those prices are in pounds. The pound is double the dollar at the moment. So, those prices are twice what you think they are. That £10 t-shirt is costing you $20. Don't forget that! However, if you like Birkenstocks, do grab those. They are about $20 cheaper in London than both the US and Sweden. Score!
On to day 1:
We arrived in London via Ryan Air from Malmö, Sweden and jumped on the Express Train to London. This comes into Liverpool Station, which is just enormous. There are tons of shops and little eateries here. Do be sure to have some change on ya though as it costs 20p to use the damn bathroom at this station. Annoying, that. From here we hopped the Underground and made our way over to Paddington, where our hotel was located.
