This is actually something my son and I did one year for his sister's birthday while she was sleeping. We had loads of fun while she had a good sleep! We tread very lightly and carefully while putting up her 'canopy'. She did not wake up once.

(You need 2 people to do these.) First, does your little princess dream of having a canopy bed but you cannot afford a real canopy bed? Wellll...you can make a fake canopy with sheets, curtains or valances. You can even use a bedskirt! Whether you want the short ones or long.

There is a variation of what you can use.

For a short one, what you can do is:

1) Take a bed skirt and spread it out. Then...one person stands on the bed at one corner and adjusts the corner of the bedskirt so that it is directly overhead. Lightly hammer to tack it up. From there, go to the foot of the bed and do the same, making sure the bedskirt is directly in line over the edge of the bed right up to the corner. Continue on, making sure the sheet part of the bedskirt is smooth and flush. The skirt will hang down from the ceiling, making it look like a short skirt canopy.

2) With 3 short valance curtains, one can use see-thru fishing line and either 3 curtain rods or wood dowls and 6 screw hooks. First, slide the valance panels on each of the curtain rods or dowels. Next, measure out 6 equal lengths of the fishing line and cut. (Assess how far down you want the 'canopy' to hang from the ceiling over the bed. ) Wrap and tie one end of the fishing line to the ends of each dowl/curtain rod. Next, tightly wrap and knot the other ends of each fishing line to the ceiling hooks. You should now have your canopy put together and ready to hang. Next, standing on the corner of the bed, raise the hooks up to the ceiling and screw in. (Making sure you're directly over a corner of the bed.) Do this to all four corners. And voila! (Please note: These instructions are for 3-sided. Sides and foot of bed. If you want fourth for over head of bed, add one more curtain, dowel/rod and 2 screw hooks.)

I love how you pulled this off. Great ideas and so inexpensive compared to a canopy bed that an older girl will be tired of and want to take down. (Our niece had one)
