We have many Christmas traditions in our family but one of my favorites is New Years Eve. We have always gone to my aunt's house, since I was a kid, and opened all our presents from each other. This would be all the cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmas, and grandpas. We would always eat a Christmas dinner, visit and then open presents. This tradition has been in my family for so many years I have finally got to pass it on to my daughter. This will be here third year with us on Christmas but it will be her first year that she will understand. This tradition has always meant so much to us for one reason, Family. We would all go there & the whole family would get to bond and share stories that have happened through the year. Christmas should always be the main reason for holidays but sometimes its not. My family has always made the holidays just for family get together and it has made me grow into such a family oriented person. I hope that I too can pass on this tradition and all others to my daughter so that family means that much to her also.
My husband and I have many years to start family traditions with our own family. One we started with our daughter is to let her open 1 Christmas present on the Eve of Christmas. This is a very popular tradition with families but we also make it a point to play with that y with my daughter before she goes to bed to wait for Santa. We felt that this would be a way to award her for being so patient with all the presents under the tree. We also make it a point to her that Christmas is for family and spending family together is most important.
The one tradition I can't wait to start is leaving cookies for Santa Claus. I think my daughter is still too young to understand the whole story but I look forward to it. I know next year we will get to go into detail with her about Santa Claus and start leaving cookies out for him on Christmas Eve. Family traditions should always mean a lot to children so that when they become adults they can pass all of these traditions onto their children. You should always remember the feeling you got thinking about the next Christmas and all the fun traditions you get to celebrate with your loved ones.
