Afghanistan's Women Being Murdered?
Why Weren't We Watching?

This week's events in Afghanistan should greatly alarm all progressive minded people, particularly those that give voice to the platitudes of freedom, education, and equality for the women of the world. Perhaps we have been lulled into the state of willing self deception, having seen the Taliban destroyed and a few "glam names" declaring to the world that little girls could now attend schools, take off their burqa's and live with the same freedoms as we have had in the progressive world. All nations stood and took notice, though some were secretly terrified that those freedoms may be forced onto their own county, and holdouts to the liberation were dealt with. "Freedom to All Women Everywhere!"Perhaps it's inevitable that we then said, "OK, everybody back to work now, shows over," as we do everyday. It's at least arguable that we're so lost in our daily freedoms that we're incapable of seeing the bogeyman creeping back to reclaim his victims with fear and terror. How many years has it been since the women in the US faced beatings, being shamed publicly, and even found death in the great "Women's Suffrage Movement?" And here we still are, fighting various levels of gender bias, but the beatings are emotionally applied instead where the damage isn't as prevalent. So how could we not have known to keep watching - to help our sisters in gender to continue to push past the beginning roadblocks when the badman comes again. To some extent, we-the woman that are free, are partially responsible. Responsible because we told them we'd help and gave them a ride to the other side of liberation, threw huge media parties and then left them there, defenseless and without the experience of keeping the freedoms as we have learned to do over most of our lifetimes.
"But they had a national women's affairs office. I heard a Ms. Amajan was the Officer of that officer for women's rights. So there's someone to advise and keep things flowing!"
