While still a young hobby/medium/artistic experience/form of trash entertainment, videogames have quickly become an important facet in the lives of millions of people around the world. With sales reaching past the box offices of many blockbuster movies, video games have become a cultural icon with production qualities challenging the best Hollywood can offer.

With the latest offering of Next Gen systems, gamers can experience graphics that verge on the CGI movies, listen to fully orchestrated surround sound that shakes your living room and experience new types of controllers that blur the line between gaming and virtual reality.

But some wish for the good ole days.

Yes, the days of pixels before polygons. Like a man may appreciate a 400 year old painting instead of the works of a modern master, so do some gamers tend towards the origins of their hobby. Rummaging through auctions, classifieds, webpages, eBay and even junkyards they scour the world, looking for pieces of own personal Rembrandt. Frogger, Pac-Man, Ikari Warriors and Out Run fill their dreams as they did the day they first played them. Leaf switches, joysticks, cathode ray tubes and circuit panels, these are the holy grails of the retro-gamer.

And guess what? You have to buy one of these psychopaths a Christmas/Birthday/Bar Mitzvah present. What do you do rookie? What do you do?

Don’t worry your little head! The Man they call L-MO is here to help! Within the depths of these pages I shall lead you on a quest to find that perfect gift for the gaming guru that’s crept its way onto your Christmas list and quite possibly into your heart. I warn you now, we shall be traveling rough waters and you may lose any hope or respect for that controller wielding person that you so wish to shop for. But I guarantee you that I won’t force you to buy one of those creepy DOA life size girl pillows. They don’t come in Mrs. Pac-Man anyway. Really, what the heck is up with those things?
