Review : Call of Duty 3 for PS3

Call of Duty 3 is the best of the series in terms of graphics and online play, though there are some significant absences and the game doesn't live up to the potential that it has with the PS3. In Call of Duty 3, you play a soldier in the second World War, just like the rest of the series. While playing Call of Duty 3 you'll really feel like you're part of a huge war. The game is perfectly paced. It's not a shoot and run, and it isn't a full blown tactical shoot out. It combines the two perfectly. However, with as good as most aspects of Call of Duty 3 are, the single player mode, and the frame rate problems leaves one unsatisfied.






Call of Duty 3 is intended, it seems to me, to a be another Counter-strike. The online multi-player mode is the real strength of the game which allows upto 24 players to hook up together. The online mode is so well done, that you almost feel like you're a 'ban of brothers' in the war. It takes great graphics, awesome sounds, some snazzy camera shaking, and frantic orders from your officers to make all of this happen, but it does, and the result is amazing. Call of Duty 3 is worth its price just with the multiplayer mode.






While the graphics of Call of Duty 3 are easily the best of the series, thanks to the PS3 capabilities, they are not any better than those on the Xbox 360 version. Instead, there are frame rate problems that bug you through the game. This is much lower in the multiplayer mode, but is especially noticeable in the single player mode of Call of Duty 3. But still, even at the lowest rates the game is not unplayable, and the graphics are just a little choppy.






The sounds really make you feel like you're part of the action. The planes going overhead dropping bombs, the calls of your comrades, the yells of the enemies. The different guns. The ominous sounds of the tanks coming through the trees and all really make Call of Duty 3 an incredible experience.
