Day 36 (Friday, July 18, 2008)I headed to Peking Gourmet Inn, a swanky Chinese restaurant, with my boyfriend after work so I had to be prepared to go from office wear to party wear with no fuss. The solution was easy. I simply threw a cardigan over a dark evening dress and grabbed some low-key shoes. All I had to do was remove my cardigan for dinner. Warning: for the millionth time, you can't get away with this at all, or even most offices, but when you intern in the creative world, your options are much more appealing. How can I complain when our only dress code rules against shorts and flip-flops? I hardly wear shorts anyway and never go for foamy flops. Anyway, needless to say, I relished today's, what I shall call, fashion experience.
*Esprit black cardigan trimmed with lace; it's old and faded. Pretty soon it will be charcoal gray.
*My sister's senior prom dress---a vintage find from a thrift shop, although I'm not sure which one. I am, however, sure that it cost under $10.
*Route 66 red sandals that I bought at K-mart for $7 (I'm no K-mart fan, but I stopped there to use the restroom while visiting Edgewater, Maryland last weekend. Of course, bathroom breaks at any store are rarely just those, especially once I've spotted bright yellow signs that announce 50-60% discounts).
