There is new talk of a military draft being reinstated in the United States. I think there will be one very soon. Our Military is over extended and this will bring about the draft. With potential wars brewing with North Korea, Iran, and possibly China, we need the draft. It is much better to have it start now so we will have a larger standing military with troops already trained. Ok in case you are wondering I am too old to be drafted in most scenarios. But don't think I don't have anything to lose. I have 15, 14 and 10 year old boys. The 15 year old plans to go into the Air Force anyway but I am not a huge fan of any of my kids being sent to war.

However there must be sacrifices made if we want to continue to live as America always has. Freedom has to be fought for sometimes. Now that don't mean I support the war in Iraq. I support the troops fighting but not the war it's self. I think we were lied to about why we invaded. But that is an article for another time. I think it's very probable that we will be fighting North Korea and or Iran over their nuclear program. I do think fighting North Korea to keep that nutcase of a leader they have, from nuking us, is a worthy fight. With the talk of the draft I thought maybe people would be interested in an article about the history of the Military Draft in the United States.

During the Revolutionary War, George Washington had a small army of not well trained soldiers. He had to rely on State Militias of even less trained men. After he became President, he tried to pass legislation for men to be registered for service and trained in the military. Congress did not pass this legislation. Presidents, Jefferson, Madison, and Adams later try the same thing with the same results.

Takeaways
  • George Washington wanted a draft and didn't get one.
  • New York City has a history of not loving the draft
  • We need the draft if we have to Fight North Korea

By saying I support the troops I mean I hope they get back safe and that I would never insult what they do for the country. That is not a cop out in any way.

You support the troops but not the war, that is a cop out. Thats like me saying I support fish but not the water they swim in. You still support the killing, so that means you still support the war. I support the war because it makes sure YOUR CHILDREN live to be older. Be thankful we have troops at all.
