Chicago Bulls Basketball Player Profile: Larry Hughes

Which Larry Hughes Will Show Up?

Player Profile: Larry Hughes
Position: Shooting Guard
Height: 6'5''
Age: 29

Player Summary

Larry Hughes was one of the players picked up by the Chicago Bulls in the mid-season Ben Wallace trade with the Cavaliers. It's unclear if Hughes was included in the trade more because the Chicago Bulls wanted him, or
because the Cavaliers wanted to exile Hughes and his contract. After the trade, Hughes became a starter with the Bulls and became one of the few guards on the team with any height.

Throughout his career, after leaving St. Louis University, Larry Hughes has been an inconsistent enigma. He has enormous talent, but has never quite put it together.

Player Strengths

Larry Hughes has the potential to be a very good scorer. Hughes finds creative ways to score and is not at all afraid to put shots up. He is an adequate shooter both from the field and from the free-throw line.

Hughes also has good height in the backcourt, which is something the Chicago Bulls sorely miss. He can play decent defense and always seems to provide some steals.

Player Weaknesses

Hughes has frustrating talent, but has been inconsistent, both from game to game and from year to year. Hughes will go off one game and then disappear the next. The Chicago Bulls can't count on constant production from Larry Hughes. In addition, his shooting percentage has fallen off. Hughes finished last season with a shooting percentage below 40%.

Hughes' career scoring numbers have fluctuated from 16 points per game (ppg) to 12 ppg to 22 ppg to 16 ppg down to 12 ppg. It just seems that you never know what you'll get from Larry Hughes. Maybe the Chicago Bulls can expect him to score 20 ppg this season if the past is any indication.
