A Late Night Reality Show with a Twist, Among Soap Opera-like Behavior

By now, most people are familiar with the infamous television show, "Cheaters". For those who haven't heard of it before, I will describe it briefly. It's a wild reality show where a host follows the mates of men and women who suspect that their significant others are dating other people
behind their back. These men and women are shown evidence of their cheating mates or spouses. This evidence is accumulated by private investigators over a certain amount of time. After viewing such evidence, the angry individuals confront their cheating mates or spouses and their secret companions on the spot, while surrounded by television cameras and the host of the show.

Many reality shows are controversial for a reason. They want a large audience and they know that people like to watch conflict between other individuals. Therefore, I can understand why the show is on air. However, what I cannot understand is why people will go to such a length to embarrass themselves and their mates on national television. Not only is it embarrassing to be on a show like Cheaters, it is not a wise choice. Why would you participate in broadcasting your personal business to the world? You are giving millions of strangers a front row seat into the lives of not only yourself, but your mate and their companion. Everyone may want to be on television. I doubt however, that anyone really wants their business aired on national television via a program that exploits the relationships between vulnerable individuals.

The problem with most people who get involved with other people online is the fact that they're usually too quick to arrange a meeting. I'd been friends with someone online for about 3 years before I decided that we needed to meet and when I went to California to see him this past April, he was exactly who he said he was and we had a blast. It's always a good idea to take precautions when arranging a meeting with someone you met online, no doubt about it, but not everyone's out to getcha. The most dangerous place to meet people online is chat rooms and social sites like MySpace(where I did not meet my friend).. I say don't go looking for someone, you'll run into the right person eventually, on or offline.

Thanks for the response Tori. I agree, those shows can be funny. For those who do meet people online, I wish them the best of luck. I heard of a woman who married a guy who she met online and later found out that he was unemployed and had lots of debt, and lots of other children. She is now taking care of his children and their bills. That is scary.
