"Butcher of Bosnia" to Be Put on Trial

Serbian security forces have captured accused war criminal fugitive Radovan Karadzic. Radovan Karadzic had been hiding out in a suburb of Belgrade, posing as a doctor of "alternative medicine," wearing long hair and a beard to hide his features.

Radovan Karadzic has been under indictment by a UN War Crimes tribunal since 1995 for genocide stemming from the massacre of eight thousand Bosnian men in Srebrenica. Radovan Karadzic is also accused of ordering the shooting of civilians during the siege of Sarajevo that lasted from April

 2nd, 1992 to February 29th, 1996. Radovan Karadzic earned the title of "Butcher of Bosnia" for the crimes he has been accused of.

Radovan Karadzic was the leader of a Serbian political party in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Radovan Karadzic became the President of a Bosnian Serb entity upon the breakup of Yugoslavia and the establishment of a separate Bosnian and Herzegovinian Republic and commanded a Bosnian Serb Army.

The Bosnian War, which was a confused civil war that involved a number of ethnic factions, including Bosnian Muslims, Bosnian Serbs, and Bosnian Croats. The Bosnian War involved outside support of various factions, primarily from Serbia and Croatia. The Bosnian War resulted in almost a hundred thousand deaths and almost two million refugees. The Bosnian War was finally brought to a close by the Dayton Peace Accords signed in December 1995.

The Bosnian War was part of a larger series of conflicts that took place in the Balkans following the breakup of Yugoslavia. It included fighting between Serbs and Croats in Croatia during the early 1990s. Ultimately fighting between Serbs and ethnic Muslims in Kosovo, which bordered Albania, was ended in 1999 by the intervention of NATO on the side of the Kosovo Muslims and an air campaign that broke Serb resistance and brought the conflict more or less to a close.

The official UN indictment against Radovan Karadzic, under the Geneva Convention, is as follows:

I read about this and found the fact that he was hiding in plain sight fascinating...Just saw a movie you might find interesting about this subject The Hunting Party...thanks for the info..
