Fallen Knight? Christian Bale Arrested, Accused of Assault
So I log onto Facebook and find a new status update from one of my friends. It read that he was "wondering whether it's true that Christian Bale assaulted his mom and sister."
I almost spit out my Gatorade onto my Macbook.
Christian Bale? Assault? Yes, he's good at assault - as Gotham City's protector Batman, notably seen in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" and, most recently, "The Dark Knight." Although the latter flick has shattered box office records held by the "Star Wars" and "Spider-Man" franchises, it is now garnering a reputation involving actors meeting trouble.
Bale's mother and sister reported to police on Monday that the actor assaulted them in their hotel room in west London. Although Bale's questioning was slated for Monday, it was postponed because of the film's European premiere the same day. The assault apparently took place on Sunday night.
The "Dark Knight" star was arrested and will be questioned on Tuesday.
What does this mean now?
I am positive that "Dark Knight" fans are shocked, but how many more surprises will this film give? Like the bomb detonators the Joker placed in brightly wrapped boxes on doomed ferries, these incidents are indeed scary surprises.
The most shocking news that befell "Dark Knight" supporters was obviously the death of Heath Ledger, who brilliantly portrayed the Joker in the film opposite Bale's Batman. Ledger's performance did not fail to deliver to his moviegoers, even after his passing in January of this year. If anything, fans are now not only greatly appreciative of Ledger's energy and dedication in the film, but are now wondering, "Wow ... I wish there was a third Joker movie. How awesome would that be?"
That is not the only real-life death to have come from Nolan's latest film. In late 2007, a crewmember died in a tragic car accident during shooting.
I'm going to ignore the superstition and the belief that this film could be cursed, a la "The Exorcist." These are just unfortunate (and fatal) predicaments that fell upon cast members and crewmates.
