There are some things you need to know before you and your pooch head off to the Montrose Dog Beach. First of all, you need to get a permit and you get those from local vegetarians. If your vet does not issue the permits, he or she will know where you can get one. This is not to make it harder for you, but to insure the safety of you and your pet. Every dog there must have a rabies vaccination, and that only makes sense. The beach will be crowded with both humans and canines off the leash.

You and your four footed friend will have a great time in the water at Montrose Dog Beach and if your dog can be handled without a leash, all the better, but make sure he or she will come when called. Otherwise use a long lead. Make sure to bring a towel to dry the pooch off and bags to pick up you know what. Also being water for both of your. There are no water fountains or bathrooms nearby. The beach is patrolled, so make sure you clean up. The beach is very will maintained, but there can be things on the beach that can hurt both humans and canines. In addition to natural things, like sea shells and such, there are thoughtless humans who do not dispose of things the way they should. You need to keep and eye on the dog all the time. Dogs love to scavenge around and they are known to eat some might weird things, and you want your experience at Montrose Dog Beach to be a positive one, not one requiring a trip to the vet. And while you are getting your permit, ask you vet about sunblock for your pet. Yes, dogs can get sunburned too, especially light colored ones and there are several that are safe to use on dogs.

Will all that said, Montrose Dog Beach is the only place in Chicago where a dog is allowed off the leash and take advantage of it. Bring along some toys, preferably ones that float and you both will get a days worth of exercise both in and out of the water. Who know who you will meet and what new friends you both will come away with. Imagine your normally confined dog racing with those of his kind up and down the beach. It is about time cities like Chicago thought of making the long hot summers better for all members of the family, those with four legs as well as two.
