Hi LCJFM-- I've looked into the Averatec laptops but didn't think they seemed worth the price (or maybe I was being a snob about their 'unknown' status). Hypersonic looks to have a little more va-voom, but then again...AMD processor?

I have an Averatec laptop. They are a relatively unknown computer manufactuer, but I'm extremely happy with it so far and have had it for almost a year. I've tried toshiba, sony and ibm - all were crap. Oh, this one also has an AMD processor, which I like a lot better than Pentium and crappy celerons.
