Book Review: Weird New York, by Chris Gethard, Mark Moran & Marc Sceurman

When I first got a glimpse of Weird New York by Chris Gethard, Mark Moran & Marc Sceurman I was intrigued. I myself being from New York, LI, I was pretty excited to see what secrets and legends these authors were able to dig up that I myself was not aware of.

I figured I would know it all before even reading the book. Besides I have heard Midgetville rumors, heard about haunted demon houses, and so on. I wondered what else could be packed within this strange looking book.

Weird New York places a bold caption on the book, it states that it is your travel guide to New York's local legends and best kept secrets. Being a local myself, I must say I was pretty damn impressed. Not only did this book pack legends, stories, and first hand experience's with places, but the book had more legends and places within the content that I never even knew about. All within a few miles from where I live! Hot damn!!!

Weird New York packs in awesome places, cool legends, and must see haunt spots doing all of this on beautiful pages. Every page is colorful, has a photo of a person, place, or thing. By adding the photos (although not necessary) it keeps the reader interested.

A few of the places mentioned in the book I personally have visited, and other places I had heard of, but never encountered...such as Midgetville. Supposedly somewhere in Merrick lies an entire mini community, from small houses, to street signs. My boyfriend swears he has seen this place, and I myself have heard more than one story about the place... have I ever seen it though? No... but I sure would like to.

Weird New York mentions everything from Hell Houses to Haunted Tunnels, Mole People who live in abandoned railways in Manhattan, Long Island very own- The Big Duck, secret devil worshiping cults that once plagued Long Island, The Montauk Experiment, and other hot weird spots located all throughout New York.

What I really loved about Weird New York though was the fact that the authors added in stories that were submitted by actual people who had first hand encounters at some of the locations mentioned This gave it an even more eerie feeling.
