John Edwards Caught with Mistress, Love Child, Claims National Enquirer

John Edwards Affair Long Rumored

The National Enquirer is reporting that former Senator, former Presidential candidate twice over, former Vice Presidential candidate and possible running mate for Barack Obama has been caught in a Los Angeles hotel room with his mistress and his love child.

The mistress was identified as Rielle Hunter, a film maker who has produced a number of videos for John Edward's various campaigns. Both Rielle Hunter and John Edwards have denied the allegation published in the National Enquirer. A close friend of John Edwards, Andrew Young (not the

former UN Ambassador and Mayor of Atlanta) has claimed to be the father of Rielle's Hunter's child.

John Edwards is married to Elizabeth Edwards, who is currently battling cancer.

If the story is true, former Senator John Edwards would not be the first politician to be taken in adultery. Former President Bill Clinton set the standard of political adulterer to such an extent that some have suggested that he was suffering from sexual addiction. On the other side of the aisle, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich managed to keep an affair he conducted during his Speakership secret.

President John F. Kennedy was famous for his adulterous affairs, revealed long after the fact. President Grover Cleveland was suspected of having a mistress and fathering a love child during the 1884 Presidential Campaign. "Ma, ma, where's my pa?" jeered Cleveland's political opponents. "Gone to the White House, ha, ha, ha," replied Cleveland's supporters when he won the election.

The revelation of John Edward's possible adultery and fathering a love child would just be the subject of entertainment and perhaps a little moral outrage had it not been for the possibility that Barack Obama might choose him as his running mate. Unlike a number of other Democratic politicians, John Edwards has expressed his willingness to take on the job should he be asked.

Well, people always think that people who love the Lord don't commit sin...if anything, they are the ones who probably commit sin the most...it's a common Christian malady. We, as Christians fall too. We are not sinless and that is for sure. If this is true...oh well...he's not perfect either. So he sinned. That's between him and God, not us and the rest of the world. The same thing happened with Clinton. For heaven's sake, it doesn't have anything to do whether or not someone can do their job. I can't imagine how many people have committed the same exact crime or sin as Sen. John Edwards (if in fact he did it at all), he's just in the limelight because he is a senator.

I don't think the mainstream media can sit on this story for too much longer. Sooner or later this thing is going to pop and Edwards is going to have to address it. I know the clips of the pre-presidential campaign that Rielle and Edwards worked on together had disappeared off the internet for a while. It seems they're back up but who knows how long, with Edwards experience as a trial lawyer I wouldn't be surprised to see them taken down again in a few days. Alan Butterfield is the Enquirer reporter claiming to have witnessed Edwards in the hotel for a rendezvous with his alleged mistress. "For those unfamiliar, Butterfield is a reporter for the National Enquirer-yes, the supermarket tabloid-and is the one who "broke" the gay sex-ring story about Ed Smart and several of his brothers. The story was based on information obtained from unnamed sources. Later it became known that some unnamed sources were paid $10,000 each. In the end, the information proved to be false and two reporters, Kevin Cantera and Michael Vigh of The Salt Lake Tribune, were fired due to their involvement in the fiasco." Dang, you even named the mistress. I laugh at the enquirer all the time since Elvis still hasn't come back but one could only hope.

Great coverage! I must say, when I saw this news story break, I was thinking about his wife, Elizabeth. I understand her cancer will eventually take her, but it is quite gauche for him to (allegedly) shop for the next wife at this time. I didn't know that about Newt. I must say, it does dull the image I have of him just a bit.
