According to Times of the Internet reporter Amy Ling, the "National Enquirer" is reporting that former senator and vice president hopeful John Edwards has a mistress and a love child.

The "National Enquirer" reports their staff caught John Edwards at a Los Angeles Hotel at 2:40 a.m. and has named his mistress as Rielle Hunter. The publication has accused Edwards before of having a dalliance with Hunter, indicating that in November of 2007 he impregnated her.

Edwards, who is being considered by Barak Obama as a running mate, is married and his wife has cancer.

Alan Butterfield of the "Enquirer" is quoted as saying in the "National Enquirer" report that "Edwards was not carrying anything. He walked in alone. He was wearing a blue dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He was looking around nervously before he entered the hotel. Once inside, he interestingly bypassed the lobby and ducked down a side stairs to go to the bottom floor to catch the elevator up - rather than taking the elevator in the main lobby. He went out of his way not to be seen."

Another article, "John Edwards meets Rielle Hunter and Their Love Child. Now What?" written by Natalie Pric of EntertainmentAndShowbiz.com questions the situation as to its seriousness.

Of course, given the "Enquirer's" track record, there is the possibility of a mistake but, still, Pric indicates in the article "this is not a crime against humanity and it's not the first time it has happened." She is referring, no doubt, to Bill Clinton.

Since, in her assessment, Pric refers to the whistle-blowers as the "moral police" one gets the impression that a moral mistake by an office holder is alright. I disagree with her.

Many of my friends back in the "Monica Lewinsky Days" said that Bill Clinton should not be held to a higher moral standard than society and that all he did was what millions of men do every year. As I told them, the reason that a president should be held to a higher standard is that by showing that kind of weakness he shows our mortal enemies a potential way to get to him and ultimately, to us as a country; it is not a matter of comparing apples to apples.

This story has been circulating for months now. Whether there is any truth at all to it, the man is no longer a Presidential candidate, as you noted, has a seriously ill wife, and probably could do without your quoting that oh-so-reputable source "The Enquirer" to smear him, once again. If you had gone back and read the original articles, you would know that Reille Hunter was (originally) hired by Edwards' campaign to post some YouTube type videos of him campaigning. Then, she was let go, amidst these rumors. Just to be fair, the very same rumors were circulating about the Republican's geriatric candidate, John McCain earier this year, so it seems to be an occupational hazard of running for office to have your good name dragged through the mud, whether "true" or "false."

Alan Butterfield is the Enquirer reporter claiming to have witnessed Edwards in the hotel for a rendezvous with his alleged mistress. "For those unfamiliar, Butterfield is a reporter for the National Enquirer-yes, the supermarket tabloid-and is the one who "broke" the gay sex-ring story about Ed Smart and several of his brothers. The story was based on information obtained from unnamed sources. Later it became known that some unnamed sources were paid $10,000 each. In the end, the information proved to be false and two reporters, Kevin Cantera and Michael Vigh of The Salt Lake Tribune, were fired due to their involvement in the fiasco." Hey Gary Good to see you discussing my article. I see you disagree with me and like everyone else would like to see the leaders as leading the way in morality too, but alas! there may not be enough people fitting the requirements. I see them more as humans and that they are vulnerable to fall . I respect them as they are not pretending to be something what they are not. Anyways lets agree to disagree! P.S. The link is wrong.
