My knowledge of some of the most unscrupulous collection agencies came as a result of an identity theft situation. Years ago, my purse, car and brief case were stolen and the events which have transpired over the years are mind boggling. After filing various notices on my credit files and there are three of them, I thought my worries were over. I was able to finally get a copy of a police report which in the State of New York is not as easy as you may think. Ultimately, I filed a complaint with the Federal Communication Commission consumers' division which may have helped some, but not completely.

So, after all of these years come a host of unscrupulous third and fourth party collection agencies, who without knowing your name will call and try to collect a debt that has already been removed from your credit file or disputed due to the stolen identification. I recently viewed a prime time special wherein a federal judge picked up his phone one day and it was Allied Interstate Collection Agency. The judge told them he did not owe them any money, but they continued harassing him on the phone and otherwise which forced the judge to do something judge-like. Unfortunately, for most the remedy might not be as swift.

As it unfolds, Allied Interstate and other collection agencies buy old collection accounts for pennies and then it is hit and miss to collect money which may or most of the time is not due. Half the time they do not know who is on the phone and most of the time they have no clue if the debt is valid or not. It is simply telemarketing, some use voice activated recordings, some have live people who fish around until they figure out who they are talking to. Some threaten the public. Others use a variety of annoying phone calls at all times of the day or night to simply bother the person.

My question is in the post immediately below. My story: I don't even owe a cent and they are harrassing me too..listen to what they did today. After 2 years and at least two times of them promising on the phone to really really delete my phone number from their record I call again today. I call them at 800 955 3103..after on hold for 2-3 mins I get a male operator who I ask for their address since I tried by phone twice, and was not removed..he says, "First of all, what' sht ephone number?" I give it and he rushes through "I've removed your number, so no need to write us, thank you and goodbye" and I quckly jump in with "no! wait! I want your address" but he hangs up quicly ..I call right back and after 5 full minuts on hold I get the same man and he won't let me talk but rushes through his sentences over me and I say "you are legally required" and he stars to say "no" before I can finish my SENTENCE and I start again "you are legally required to..." and he hangs up. THEY WON'T GIVE

Like others have said, I'm SO GLAD I searched this phone number. They have been calling me for a couple weeks asking for one of my best friends (who lives in another city). When I told them I wasn't her, they said that I was one of her "emergency contacts" and that they need her to call them. They've since called me about three times a day asking for her, and are EXTREMELY rude. Shady business.

IT is my it is my opinion that Allied staff must be having a daily contest, to see how many lives they can destroy. It does not matter if the person is sick. Allied better not go one cent over the $2,000.00 loan that has $1,649 interest. Being pissed with them will not help take action now by filing law suits. I AM TYPING WITH ONE HAND BECAUSE ALLIED TOOK MY MONIES WHEN I WAS GOING FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. wHEN I FOUND OUT IT WAS THEM I WAS ALREADY 2000 MILES AWAY FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT. when i called them after finding out it was allied, i was told that it would take anywhere from 4 to six weeks to stop the garnishment.. These people will cause you to lsuffer.

The Department of Education need and must employ a collection agency that does not hurt the students and are sensative to the needs of the students. Allied interstates collects students personal information and stating that the information is being used to determinehow much one should pay monthly. Who is collecting information on the collectors? what are the backgrounds of those persons? I am filing a report with THE PROPER AUTHORITY in WASHINTON, DC against ALLIED INTERSTATE INCOPORATED, P. O. BOX 26190 MINNEAPOLIS, MN. I WANT ALLIED TO EXPLAIN A STUDENT LOAN IN THE AMONT OF $3,649 CAN AMOUNT TO A MONTHLY PAYMENT OF $650.00. No considerations were made for utilies, car payment, mortgage or notice given to student. IF IT TAKES MY LAST BREATH I WILL ASSIST OTHERS IN ENSURING THAT THE US DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION DO NOT EMPLOY ALLIED INTERSTATE TO PERFORM ANY TYPE OF SERVICES. All those employed at allied must be having a daily contest to see how many people lives the

Allied Interstate is just a fraud collection agency hacking people's account and create a debt account on your behalf. They'll send you a letter that owed this much and they want you to pay it with your credit info. It keeps calling you, but when you call their number back all you have is a recording. The Consumer Bureau should do something about it. I am mad and piss!!!!!

Ok, I'm glad I ran into this site. We moved to Georgia about 1 yr ago (and have a new phone number) and have recieved calls (many, many calls) from this company asking for a Jennifer Haynes and Jennifer Cook. After telling them that she doesn't live here, they just called today and used my mom's last name (who the phone number is under) and the first name of Jennifer. Now, I have a sister by that name. I called her immediately and she freaked out. She doesn't owe them any money, she has never heard of them. It seems to me after the last calls, they are definately fishing for any name they can come up with. Scares the hell out of me......

I recently received a harassing call for the first time this afternoon for an account I never opened. I allegedly owe 20 something dollars for CDs I never received because I was living out of the country this past year. Regardless, I plan to pay the 20 bucks and get this over with as soon as possible. However, the lack of professionalism led me to research the company online before sending them any money. Come to find out, the company has an awful history of harassment! Since I refused to give my credit card information over the phone for fear of fraud, they agreed to allow me to overnight a money order to them. The address I was given was P.O. BOX 5017 New York, NY 10163. I was contacted from phone number 1-866-235-0053. Hope this helps!

To "WAKE UP, THIS IS NOT A SCAM, CHECK YOUR CREDIT!" You must be part of the scam. I am sick and tired of this company calling me and telling me I owe them for something this is not true. Allied Interstate personnel whom have claimed that is who they work for are rude and downright nasty. I am seeking leagl advice on how to stop this type of business practice and harrassment calls to my home. I have already contacted BBB and am seeking even more leagl actions against this company. The calls I keep receiving are in reference to an outstanding $1,200.00 sprint cell phone bill. If you research on the web for "Allied Interstate" you will find a list of things this company is harrassing folks on and how they conduct their business.

I have been getting calls from Allied everyday for about a month now. I have worked out a payment plan with my bank to pay back my debt, yet the employees at Allied still threaten me and tell me I am making a mistake, that the bank won't report my payments to the credit bureau, and don't say they didn't tell me otherwise. The bank tells me to ignore the calls but they wake me up every morning. I am disabled and don't sleep well. I can't take much more of these calls. There was fraud on my account and still may be paid by other companies, but I am making what payments I can. The police, the State's Attorney, and the bank are all aware of this case, but Allied still hassles me on a daily basis. I am not a deadbeat. I can't work, I am not able to work, even though I would rather be at work most days than tolerate the pain I deal with. I wish these companies just had a little compassion, that's all.
