My knowledge of some of the most unscrupulous collection agencies came as a result of an identity theft situation. Years ago, my purse, car and brief case were stolen and the events which have transpired over the years are mind boggling. After filing various notices on my credit files and there are three of them, I thought my worries were over. I was able to finally get a copy of a police report which in the State of New York is not as easy as you may think. Ultimately, I filed a complaint with the Federal Communication Commission consumers' division which may have helped some, but not completely.
So, after all of these years come a host of unscrupulous third and fourth party collection agencies, who without knowing your name will call and try to collect a debt that has already been removed from your credit file or disputed due to the stolen identification. I recently viewed a prime time special wherein a federal judge picked up his phone one day and it was Allied Interstate Collection Agency. The judge told them he did not owe them any money, but they continued harassing him on the phone and otherwise which forced the judge to do something judge-like. Unfortunately, for most the remedy might not be as swift.
As it unfolds, Allied Interstate and other collection agencies buy old collection accounts for pennies and then it is hit and miss to collect money which may or most of the time is not due. Half the time they do not know who is on the phone and most of the time they have no clue if the debt is valid or not. It is simply telemarketing, some use voice activated recordings, some have live people who fish around until they figure out who they are talking to. Some threaten the public. Others use a variety of annoying phone calls at all times of the day or night to simply bother the person.

To: Think about it; I received a message on my phone about the call being a collection call. That was 2 wks ago. I have no outstanding debts & have chosen not to return Allied's call. Were you on a FISHING EXPEDITION when you called & left the message!!!!!!!!. I see on the Internet that Allied Interstate is being sued. Why would that be, unless you do not consider yourself governed by any LAWS & try to extract $$ and/or private info from anyone you can. SHAME ON YOU!!!!. You will get yours in the end.!!!!!!

I've been getting these people calling me all the time now, but not on my mobile, it's all at home. The number is 877-225-1118, and I really want them to stop. My identity got stolen once recently, and then my mother's did too, but that was at least twenty, if not thirty years ago. I want them to stop freaking calling me! It's getting on my nerves, and they are literally the only people calling on my home phone. I might just give them a piece of my mind soon, because it's getting so annoying. Not to mention it pisses me off that people are getting paid to do this. Or to bother people. So stupid.

I was told by Allied Interstate that I have won the sweepstakes for two and a half million dollars. They then asked for a shiping and handling fee payable by credit or debit card. I laughed and hung up on the fool. The thing is the bank made a mistake and expect me to pay for it. Not going to happen.

I too have been getting these call about three times a day from allied. They have a new number now (8773756992). They say they are looking for a person with a hispanic name. I told them I know of no person with that name and they said they are going to take me off the list. That was twenty calls ago. I finally had enough and being retired I have time and thier dime (877 number)so I call them back ten times to thier one with a bad attitude. I have got them mad, go figure? They have called me back with a anonymous number right after the my call but did not say anything and hung up. The calls have not stopped but I have the satisfaction of making them as mad as me. I owe no one, take pride in paying me bills on time. If you are in that boat and have time, give them a call and voice your opinion ten times to allied's one.
The FTC is doing nothing, the phone company sells time to them so they do nothing. Most of all,the major credit cards and banks use them and can care less how t

IF YOU WORK FOR ALLIED THEN HOW IN THE HELL DID YOU GET MY BOY FRIENDS PHONE NUMBER I HAVE NEVER GIVIN IT OUT. FURTHUR MORE WHEN I ANSWER MY PHONE I GET YOUR PHONE RINGING. You don't seem to get it, we are getting calls from your company sometimes 10 times a day; yes, someone has sold our number and/or info to you guys, but you are the ones who bought it and use it against innocent people!! I have read many comments about those who have asked for their number to be removed from your system and more than 48 hours later have received calls again - explain that policy. Your points are not valid at all. You claim innocence in the whole matter yet it is your company that set up that dialing system and it is you who choose to work for such a place, if you had and all the others there had some self decency we wouldn't have this problem at all!!

caller made a sales pitch about offering a credit card protection package on a credit card that has been closed...they wanted SS to reopen acct...beware!
