Ferns are some of the most beautiful varieties of foliage. The lacy branches look lovely when paired with real or artificial flower arrangements, and they are great for decorating the interior of a home. Instead of simply using ferns when decorating with floral arrangements, ferns can be used in a number of unique and crafty ways in bathrooms, bedrooms, sun porches, or even when decorating kitchens. Consider the following unique ways of decorating with ferns. Even those who are not artistically inclined can create unique and impressive rooms with designer style. Ferns can be used to create a number of unique decorating accessories and amazing works of art, and the following unique and creative ideas will help you get started.

Table Coverings and Placemats Adorned with Ferns

Ordinary cotton table coverings and placemats can be decorated using fern branches. Buy plain inexpensive cotton table coverings and two or three shades of green latex craft paint. You will also need a small foam brush, plastic to protect the work surface, a heavy plastic trash bag, a small plastic or foam tray for holding the various shades of paint, and several freshly cut fern branches. Consider practicing the following decorating technique on poster board or paper bags before trying it on fabric.

Begin by laying the tablecloth or placemats on a flat surface. If decorating a tablecloth, it will probably be necessary to spread it out on the floor. Smooth away any wrinkles, or iron the fabric if necessary. Pour two or three shades of green latex craft paint into a tray, and randomly apply one of the shades to a fern branch laid out on a heavy plastic trash bag. Apply one or two more shades to one side of the branch, carefully press it against the fabric of a placemat or tablecloth, and pull it off without smearing the paint. Continue this decorating process using ferns of various sizes until the fabric is completely embellished with fern branches.
