Throwing a Christmas Block Party s a fun way to bring the entire neighborhood together during the winter holidays. There are quite a few steps involved in hosting a successful Christmas block party though!1. Location
Location may be the most difficult part of planning a neighborhood Christmas block party. If you are lucky enough to live in a planned neighborhood with a community clubhouse you could reserve it for the block party. If you feel comfortable hosting a large number of people in your own home that is an option as well. Personally my favorite choice is a cul de sac or even the front yard of one of the neighborhood homes. This way everyone can see the party happening and know they should come on over.
Hosting this Christmas block party outside will mean you need a little heat. Try borrowing a neighbor’s fire pit or even use a metal trashcan. Everyone loves a good fire and it will keep everyone warm!
2. Invitations
Invitations are a huge part of planning any holiday block party. Print them out on an 8X10 inch sheet of paper so you can fit all of the info on there. Be sure to list the time, date, and place of the Christmas block party.
Be sure to list any planned activities. Plan to have horseshoes or other outdoor games ready so the kids can play while the adults talk.
In a separate section list your contact information.
Finally, always list an RSVP number or email. I like to reserve the bottom four inches of the paper for a return slip that neighbors can fill out. On it you can ask name, number of guests, what food they would like to bring, and how many guest will be kids.
Guest can rip off the return form and drop it into your mailbox so you know if they will be coming or not.
3. Food and Drinks
Don’t forget to list what you need everyone to bring. Simplify things and tell each household to bring a finger food. You can have the drinks ready so no one has to carry them over.
Don’t forget to have some hot chocolate and coffee ready in thermos containers. This will keep your guest warm and happy!
4. Games for kids (and adults)
