Sponsoring Hope for the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation

On November 4th the Miracle Mile Race for the benefit of the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation took place on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University took place.

This race, like most charity events, was the result of dedicated volunteers and willing sponsors.

Sarah Witt (Sarah Roberts-Witt to readers of PC Magazine and Portals) was the lead organizer of this event. But she did not do it all by herself. Just the registration of the runners would have been too much for any one person.

A key sponsor of this event was the North Carolina Roadrunners Club. They have run in many charity events but this one was special. They were running for one of their members, Sarah, who used to run full and half marathons just for fun. Now Sarah has to take medication just to loosen up her muscles so that she can ride her powered wheel chair. For the roadrunners this was a very different race, which they were proud to sponsor.

Another key sponsor was the North Raleigh United Church where Sarah has found a home among people who believe everyone is important. There aren’t all that many runners in prime shape among the members. But the opportunity to sponsor a good friend could not be passed up.

The Athletes foot chose to put themselves in as a leading sponsor. They could have done less but they chose to do more. They were very visible helping out at the race itself. So in addition to money they provided talent at the event.

Love 2 Run Coaching run by Karen and Mike Hess proved that you don’t have to be a big business in order to have a big heart. This Raleigh business was in the forefront of the sponsors lending their support to this effort.

Lenovo, the company the purchased IBM’s PC division, joined to show support for a family member with the condition. Sarah’s husband Jeff is a manager there.

Ascolese Enterprise, Inc. and Second Look Pressure Cleaning were also among the big hearted supporters who were among the major sponsors of the race.

Even though under the rules dogs were not allowed. At least one illegal entrant felt so strongly the it needed to run to show support.
