Detox sounds scarier than what it really is. People equate the word more so with sobriety however; there are others ways of being toxic other than alcohol and drugs. Everything we put into our bodies determines our state of toxicity. One way to assist in the detoxification process is with herbal detox teas.

Herbal teas have been used for years for medicinal reasons, but also for taste and comfort. Today the market offers many varieties of herbals teas, and some that are specifically recommended for use during a detox. The good thing is that not only are they are caffeine free, and healthy, but the tea consumption counts as part of the daily fluid intake requirement.

You may find you like one tea over another based on taste. They are all equally effective however. You can buy herbal teas already prepared, or you can make your own. It is all a matter of preference and convenience. Either way, you should receive the same results.

One of the top detox teas and one of my favorites is lemon and ginger tea, which also serves as a diuretic. Lemon is good for a good many things including rheumatism and fever. Ginger is great in assisting in digestive issues, and tends to act as a soother. If you decide to use a dried herb, pour the boiling water over the herb and allow it to simmer covered for a few minutes before adding the lemon. Drain herbs from the liquid and add lemon, and lemon zest (optional) to add to the flavor if you like.

Chamomile tea has always been considered a tea for calming ones’ nerve at night or during stressful times. A great detox tea, it is also known for helping with colds and menstrual cramps, chamomile tea has been thought to have actual medicinal attributes according to medical studies at Imperial College in London.

Nettle another good herb to create a detox tea, though strong in taste, is said to be best used as a tonic, as opposed to a tea. This is a great herb to use for those going through detox that have chosen to eliminate caffeinated beverages from their diet.
