The Truth as to Why the Government Refuses to Budge in This Long Standing Drug War
Regarding the longstanding controversy over whether or not pot should be legalized, let's refer to the same old, tired, repetitive arguments.Anti-legalization
1. If pot were legal, it would open the door for more users, saying 'marijuana is ok to use'.
2.Marijuana is a gateway drug.
3. There are cancer-causing chemicals in marijuana.
4. Marijuana is a drug. It is addicting, it damages motivation, brain cells, causes memory loss…
(Here, my list will end, for I haven't heard many other arguments.)
Perhaps I haven't talked to the right people, but I will say this:
In my 'active pot smoking days', I was motivated to write a book, titled 'Legal Eyes'. It was to be composed of interviews with a number of 'respectable' citizens (lawyers, doctors, police officers, even some government officials) stating their opinion on thecontroversial topic of legalizing marijuana.
This project was abandoned due to frustration that although nearly everyone supported the legalization of marijuana, it was always off the record. Nobody wanted to risk their reputation, because it wasn't worth it. Of course it wouldn't be, marijuana is just marijuana, and even in their own words it 'really isn't that big of a deal. Even if nothing changes.'
I didn't hear many reasons at all why pot should stay illegal, yet I did hear many of the same things regarding the pro-legalization.
Pro-legalization
1. As far as 'opening the door', a shockingly small number of people would be affected. If they have never tried pot, they wouldn't try it just because it was legal. (Apparently, the legal status has no part in a person's decision to try smoking pot.)
- There is substantial money for the government from fines due to marijuana being illegal.
- If marijuana were legalized, the government would risk not being able to tax it for income.
- The effects of legalizing marijuana is a big unkown, so nobody will support it - on the record.

I, Caryn, am the author of this article which discusses the DEBATE about marijuana / legalization, and how almost every single anti-legalization claim is FALSE. you are so very wrong. marijuana is not addictive. alchohol is more of a gateway drug then marijuana. marijuana does not cause cancer, it is used to treat cancer. it does not permanently affect your motivation, and a cup of coffee will kill more brain cells, then a joint. and it is ok to smoke marijuana, some of the most successful brilliant people have smoked marijuana, including the president of the United States of America. a bottle of coke is more harmful to the body then a joint of marijuana. do your fucking research, you uneducated prick. read the comments, and you will understand that everyone completely disagrees with you, because they are all right.

To the writer of this article Caryn Murray: You are an uneducated spick, there are NO cancer causing chemicals in marijuana smoke and my proof is there 0 recorded cancer diagnosis due to marijuana smoke alone. There is nothing IN marijuana that is addicting and my proof is there is no chemical balance in marijuana that is listed as addicting. Marijuana smoke does not damage or slow the brain my proof there are 0 cases of damage to a human brain from marijuana smoke, there are only cases of the creativity center INCREASING in productivity. removal of alcohol prohibition during the great depression is one of the major things that brought us out of that time period removing prohibition on marijuana could do the same thing we have to many people who are afraid of change obviously marijuana prohibition has not worked they have not stopped marijuana use they never will. if something isnt working sometimes its better to try that thing that may be frowned upon but could change the direction of the economy and better everybody

fuck the ignorant people who have always saw it as wrong i used to think the same way. its not till you start researching facts and documentation of marijuana not being harmful. its as harmful as smoking cigarettes. it belongs under the alcohol/tobacco category. it is way less harmful to smoke a joint than to drink a case of beer once a week. im very conservative it you dont like it dont do it, stay away from it but dont try to take away someone elses freedom if its not harming you

First of all, "Marijuana is a Gateway Drug" this might be considered true, but people only tend to start on Marijuana because crack/cocaine dealers tend to deal Marijuana on the side and try to sell crack/cocaine to their customers. If Marijuana was legal then people would not have to go to crack/cocaine dealers to obtain Marijuana. Number two, researches have found that there are 0 cancer causing chemicals found in Marijuana; in fact THC(tetrahydrocannabinol) helps cure the elderly in memory loss and other cancer. This is why it is prescribed as medicine from doctors. Also, Marijuana is not addictive there is no drug like nicotine in Marijuana, and it is a myth that you lose brain cells from smoking Marijuana. They tested it on monkeys with gas masks on for 7 months straight. Who wouldn't lose brain cells from doing that.

For the record, again, I am PRO legalization and so is this article. I'm just not for idiots smoking pot lol, but that won't matter if its legal or not... you just can't fix ignorant

I looked in records for automobile accidents caused by cannabis and couldn't find any for my state or neighboring states. I didn't feel it was necessary to continue my search.
