Brick Wall Photo Effect – See Image One for the End Results

Step 1
First you will need to open your Photoshop program. Next you will need to open the photo that you want to apply this effect to. Click File > Open to open your photo. When the dialog box pops up, locate your photo, click it and click Open.

Step 2
You will see three tabs in your Layers Panel. Click on the Channel Tab. If you do not see your Layers Panel then press F7 on your keyboard or you can click Window > Layers at the top of your Photoshop window. Next you will need to create a new channel in your channel tab. Click the little icon at the bottom of the window that looks like a sheet of paper with the corner curled. When you click the icon your photo will turn black.

Step 3
Select your Rectangular Marquee Tool in your Toolbar. It is the first icon in your toolbar. You will need to click on the Circular Marquee and hold it down until the box drop down. Then click on the Rectangular Marquee Tool. Now draw a rectangle around your photo. Leave a little room between your rectangle and the edge of your photo so that you can place a solid color border around it. This will give it a more realistic look. Please see image two if you don’t understand what I’m talking about.

Step 4
Next you will need to click Select > Inverse at the top of your Photoshop window. Now you will see two rectangles around your photo.

Step 5
Select the color that you want the border to be by changing the Foreground color. The Foreground color is the color on top in your Toolbar. Gray is a nice color to use since you are doing a brick wall.
