Our world consists of people who are making it in life and those who are trying to make it. In such a rich country with unlimited opportunities why do we still see poor, homeless, sick, jobless, and desperate people? There's a large chunk of society who will never accomplish the American dream due to many reasons. They get stuck in the poverty cycle. Once in poverty it's hard to get out and most end up passing it on generation to generation. Many deal with crappy healthcare, bad education, job hardships, high housing, lack of transportation, drugs and crime.

People at the bottom of our society either die trying to live the American dream working 2 to 3 jobs, or turn to illegal activities to make the dream come true. Some people turn to drugs to ease the pain of being poor and accept the reality that they will never live the American dream. Some then end up being drug addicts with nothing to lose, because once they've lost it all, they turn to crime to maintain their addictions. Out of this group of poor low-income people comes a lot of prostitutes, crack-heads, drug dealers, hustlers, thieves, con artists, crazy, and suicidal people. Not to mention the rate of drug users and pregnancies. Personally I know both drug dealers and drug users, both are trying to escape the same thing - being poor! The sad fact is that this cruel cycle of our lower income bracket is all caused by lack of money for life necessities. The government spends so much money trying to fight and prevent drugs and crime.
