Miley Cyrus Needs a Wake Up Call

She was watching Hannah Montana. At that point I had heard about the show but it wasn't as mainstream as it is now. I couldn't help but look up from my grocery ads to look at the tv and laugh. I thought this is the cutest, wholesome girl and what a great show that there is always a moral at the end. We started watching Hannah Montana regularly and even my husband wouldn't groan whenever it was on. He liked the show too! My daughter fell in love with Miley Cyrus. She always wanted the latest Hannah Montana merchandise. It went from a Hannah Montana bookbag and notepad for school to a Guitar and the Hannah Montana wig (which is amusing). Then the whole world watched as Britney Spears down-spiraled into an oblivion. Thank god my daughter didn't even know who Britney Spears was however, she did know her younger sister Jaime Lynn.

When my daughter turned six she started watching this show called "Zoey 101." Which features the younger Spears and in my opinion is not a show for six year olds. I watched one episode with her and I told her that I no longer wanted her to watch the show. The characters are cute but I don't think she needs to watch shows with Junior high kids kissing and getting into trouble all of the time. A few weeks later I find out little Jaime Lynn is pregnant, not the type of role model for a six year old. Granted, Hannah Montana is in Junior high but that show centers around family and last time I checked she wasn't promoting teen pregnancy.
That leads us to the question "What is going on with Miley Cyrus?" I think I have the answer. She's a kid! She's getting older and wants to spread her wings right? I watched a video that was posted on the internet last Friday of Miley Cyrus and a friend making fun of fellow Disney star Selena Gomez. In the video Miley is making fun of Selena and Camp Rock star Demi Lovato. Something about the gap in Demi's teeth and a t-shirt. Yes this is immature, lame and stupid but these are 16 year old girls. The argument I have is, eventhough they are girls being girls they are also role models to millions of young girls in the world.
