Reflections of Summer

As the Summer sun slips behind the Fall bound skies,
I sip fond memories of icy tea on the the back porch of my mind.

The reflections of Summer slowly drifting on the waters edge of time.

Now, Summer is slowly fading into the bursting colors of red, gold and orange.

When night has fallen with the presence of a damp frost,
then you will know Summer has escaped us for yet another moment in time.

The lawn mowers will humm their last tune
and then be put to rest till next June.

Rakes pound the ground to a unison beat.
Gone is the Summers last burst of heat.

The children suddenly trading cool wet pools
for piles of leaves to frolic in.

Grills are traded for the hot crackle
of the burnt leaves that descend forever into the evening skies.

Summer will soon be in the backpacks of children
on yellow busses.

Beaches will be vacant with only footprints as a memory that Summer was here.
None of us want to say good-bye to Summer for another year,
But, before we know it, Summer..... will once again re-appear!
