What Differentiates Sanctuary Cities From Other United States Cities?

Immigrants who have entered the United States without proper visas - or who have overstayed their visas and are at this point in violation of federal immigration laws - are protected against the enforcement of federal immigration laws. This may take several different forms.

In some cases, police officers and other law enforcement officials are required to specifically not inquire about an immigrant's current immigration status. In other cases, as is the currently the case in San Francisco, city employees are specifically prohibited from giving any assistance to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during immigration investigations or even pending arrests.

In cities not designated sanctuary cities, local law enforcement and federal immigration enforcement work together to deport undocumented immigrants who are running afoul of the system. At this time there are a large number of sanctuary cities across the United States and a list maintained by OJJPAC reveals that it is increasing steadily.

Why Do Local Officials Favor Sanctuary City Policies?

Most often the failure of immigrant communities to help local law enforcement to reduce crime is cited as a reason for embracing sanctuary city policies. In theory, the knowledge that a call to authorities will not result in potential recrimination to an undocumented immigrant may encourage the individual to be more proactive in contacting police when witnessing a crime. In the same vein, such an immigrant will testify in court if called, without fear of being deported.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom issued a press release in April of 2008 in which he pointed out that the goal of his sanctuary city policy is an increased stability of San Francisco communities as well as an overall commitment to healthy families and a healthy workforce.

Whose the next innocent legal resident to die a the hands of an illegal alien gang member. Which 'Sanctuary city' in violation of Federal law, is going to be the scene of another cold-blooded murder of an innocent victims. First Jamiel Shaw in Los Angeles and now the Bologna Father and two sons slaughtered, in a growing car rage incident. Over the years since 'Sanctuary cities' became an abhorrent label, how many murders have been committed been hidden by the liberal court system and its timid thrall Hopefully Independents party members stop this travesty of our immigration laws Demanding pledges from both Obama and McCain, Reid, Pelosi and all the retinue, who are supposed to swear an oath of allegiance to all Americans, against enemies domestic and foreign. We must not let the biased liberal media slowly fade this heinous crime into the background. The Federal government (ICE) needs to descend on Sanctuary cities across America and arrest the pathetic Mayors, an

The Federal government should have to 'ASK' permission of the liberal anarchists Mayor or his minions, that are running San Francisco into the slime? According to Section 274 felonies under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, INA 274A(a)(1)(A): they broke Federal law. It states, "..a person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he: * assists an alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or So tell me why are the Federal government Asking "PERMISSION" to enter their jails or make arrests in these cities? Why do they not swoop down on any community intentionally violating "THE PEOPLE'S LAW." When you violate our laws, the Federal government shouldn't be sending letters asking for permission. How sick and pathetic has the fed's got when they need to genuflect to peons
